Safety Policy

Objectives

It is the policy of Johns Manville Europe to ensure the provision of a working environment free from risks to the health and safety of employees, or others who may be affected by our activities.

We believe that accidents are preventable and that risks are controllable.

Methods

The objectives can be achieved by ensuring each facility introduces and maintains an effective safety management system that identifies and controls risks in accordance with National or European legislation, or compliant with Johns Manville Corporate standards (whichever provides higher protection).

Effective communication will ensure identified risks are brought to the attention of those employees who are likely to be exposed to harm. Therefore each facility will ensure good communication by means of Works Councils, Safety committees, Employee information meetings or other suitable methods.

Each facility will ensure that all necessary emergency equipment, safeguards and/or protective devices are fitted to relevant equipment and that they are tested and maintained in accordance with legislation and/or industry guidance.

Each facility will ensure that employees are trained in all aspects of their respective tasks, the employees will also be trained in the safe use and maintenance of tools and equipment needed to complete the tasks safely.

Independent audit will be used to measure the effectiveness of these methods and compliance with relevant legislation.

Basic standards

Everyone shall assist Johns Manville Europe meet the objectives of this policy by working to reduce unsafe acts or conditions within their work area. This includes complying with necessary rules and regulations including use of personal protective equipment.

Every employee is expected to use equipment and materials, as they have been trained to do, failure to do so may lead to injury to themselves or others.

No employee is expected to perform any task for which they have not been trained to complete, employees should never place themselves in unnecessary danger.

No employee should interfere with or disarm any device provided for their protection.

Intentional or repeated disregard for the contents of this policy or the rules/regulations introduced to meet its objectives may endanger your own health and safety and that of your fellow workers. This will also compromise your continued employment with Johns Manville.
