Johns Manville: Comfil-G® – Partner to the Plastic Reinforcements Industry
(Bad Homburg, April 1, 2003) – The economic manufacturing of lightweight plastic molds with improved tensile strength is effectively facilitated by Comfil-G®, Johns Manville’s new product family. Comfil-G® are new hybrid yarns in a homogenous blend of continued glass filaments and endless PET or L-PET filaments. In addition, a new product with PP filaments will be introduced to the market this year.
Comfil-G® is suited for technical processes like pultrusion, melt vacuum, melt press forming, winding and braiding. It resists temperatures up to 120°C (PET) and can easily be transformed into parts. Due to their superior surface adhesion, PET and L-PET have excellent painting and gluing performance.
The yarn offers excellent processing properties in the manufacturing of fabrics, scrims and knitted fabrics. Yarn volume and the resulting slip resistance accommodate excellent draping abilities for 3-D components and a good surface coverage at low area weights. The homogenous fiber distribution provides excellent consolidation properties at uniform, high and notch impact strengths in the finished product. Produced and processed solvent-free, the material is recyclable and therefore environmentally friendly.
Comfil-G® PET, L-PET and PP is ideally suited as a plastic reinforcement for the production of fatigue resistant automotive and heavy duty vehicle molds and for containers, sports and electrical equipment.
Johns Manville offers tailor made solutions by varying the percentage of matrix glass content, glass count and elongation.
