Johns Manville Introduces Nonwoven Basalt Technology - a new generation of wet laid fiber processing
Bad Homburg (June 7, 2005) -- Johns Manville (JM), a Berkshire Hathaway company and pioneer and leading manufacturer in the field of wet laid nonwovens announces a new generation of basalt nonwoven technology.
JM's nonwoven basalt technology is particularly tailored to applications such as polyurethane-reinforcements and binder systems can be developed to allow final form physical properties, such as moldability, to be specified.
Due to outstanding acid and alkaline resistance basalt nonwovens are also ideally suitable for surfacing veils in sewage systems as well as reinforcement of battery separators.
"There is a growing interest around the world for a product that has all the beneficial characteristics of fiber glass nonwovens plus the additional requirement to be more easily recycled through incineration processes. Johns Manville's basalt nonwoven products are suitable for such end-life-cycle treatment. Besides these excellent recycling properties, this new nonwoven technology offers superior thermal insulation, outstanding dimensional stability plus best-in-class mechanical properties" states Dr. Tim Swales, director of Innovation and Commercialization for Johns Manville's Engineered Products Group.
