(Bad Homburg, Oct. 14, 2002) --- The management of Johns Manville today announced its donation of 16.070 Euro = 15.782 US-$ to assist those affected by the recent flooding in Eastern Germany.

Mr. Friedbert Riedel, Chairman of the Trade Association of Bobingen, accepted the donation on behalf of the citizens of the small village of Schlottwitz in the area of Pirna. The area south of Dresden was the most heavily affected. Mudslides from the Müglitz, a tributary of the Elbe, slammed through the area leaving mass devastation in its wake.

In order to help quickly, a portion of the donation went directly to the Volunteer Firefighters, for the purchase of pumps and electric saws. Flood victims have indicated an urgent need for technical hand tools such as jackhammers, as well as roof coverings and building materials. Drying machines will also be needed to dry walls, thereby preventing further, potentially more harmful damage, as the cold weather months set in.

"As soon as we saw the horrible images on TV Johns Manville decided to contribute financial support for the restoration efforts," said Luc Mechelaere, Vice President and General Manager of Johns Manville Europe GmbH. The Worker's Council also reacted quickly, encouraging personal donations from Johns Manville employees in Bobingen, Berlin, Wertheim, Karlstein and Steinach.
